CHAPTER 6
They blocked up the entrance that Toby had dug, and headed back to the village. Toby stuck to Martyn like glue the whole way back. He was too afraid to lose his best friend again. In front of the Cece and Nico were talking quietly.
"Something's off." Cece whispered.
"What makes you say that?" Nico asked.
"I don't know. Martyn doesn't seem to have his normal warm, friendly presence. It feels... Cold."
"Now that you say, it I think you're right."
"We should keep an eye on him." Nico nodded. They all walked in silence the rest of the way to the village.

(Cece)
When they got back to the village, they went to Nico's house and gathered around his table.
“Martyn you should sit down.” Cece said. “you’ve been through a hell of a lot.”
“Na. I’m good” Martyn said. He had a strange smile on his face.
“are you sure?” Nico asked.
“Yes I am.” he sounded a bit annoyed.
“Ok. Sorry.”
“So Martyn, what happened?” Cece asked. “Toby said you fell down the pit of the Creeper king.”
“i did.”
“And you survived?” Nico asked.
“Umm, ya. I uh, hit a ledge not far down from the top. It dazed me for a while and when i woke up i made my way out.”
“Still a fall like that. I’m surprised it didn’t injure you!” Cece said. Martyn shrugged.
“I guess i got lucky.” Cece said nothing to this. It was obvious he was lying. How did Toby not notice?!?!
“Well i don’t care how he survived!” Toby exclaimed. “I’m just glad you’re ok!” He hugged Martyn who smiled.
“You know what?” Martyn said. “I actually am getting a little tired. And it’s getting late. I think i’m going to get some sleep. how about you Toby?”
“Now that you mention i’m a bit tired too.” Toby said.
“Well then Toby why don’t you sleep in my room.” Nico said.
“Ya, and Martyn, you can sleep in the guest room.” Cece said. She wanted to keep them separate. She just knew something was up.
“Sounds good to me.” Toby said. “good night everyone!” And with that he went off to bed. Martyn didn’t seemed too thrilled to be put separate from Toby.
“Well. i guess i’ll be going off to bed too.” he said.
“here i’ll show you to the guest room” Nico said. and the two walked off. Cece waited until Nico came back.
“So.” she said.
“So what?” Nico asked.
“Do you think that's the real Martyn?” Nico nodded.
“It is. his aura is all his.”
“Then what’s wrong with him? why does he seem so... cold.” Nico tensed up.
“I could sense something in his head.” he said. “there's some kind of presence there.”
“how can you tell.” Nico looked at the floor.
“I felt the same thing in my dad when he... you know.” Cece didn’t say anything. Nico’s dad was a soft subject to him. Nico’s dad who is more well know as Israphel. was the high sorcerer of the village. He was very powerful. one night he disappeared. And when he came back... he was different. he became more and more aggressive. his face kept getting more and more pale. At some point he finally snapped and tried to Kill Nico and his mom. he succeeded in killing his mom. but luckily Nico got away with the help of Cece’s dad. Israphel disappeared after that, and no one has seen him since. Now  Nico being Israphel’s only son had all the same powers his dad had and even more. He ended up become the new High Sorcerer at a very early age. Nico never liked to talk about his dad or his mom much.
“so what do you think we should do?” Cece asked.
“we need to heal him.” Nico simply said.
“Heal him? Nico is that possible?”
“yes. you see not only did i feel that evil presence in Martyn’s mind but i also felt something else... like the real Martyn was locked in a cage in his head. he’s still there. but he has no control over himself.”
“So how do we heal him?”
“You won’t like the answer.”
“really? i’m sure it’s not too bad.”
“Okay. we need to use the Staff of Ender to suck the Evil out of him.”
“wait. WHAT?!?! Nico that's way too dangerous! It could suck out his whole Life force” Cece exclaimed. The Staff of Ender is a sacred item. it can be used to heal or to kill. And what Nico was suggesting, was usually how it was used to kill.
“Told you you wouldn’t like it. well it’s either that or Kill him.” Cece sighed.
“Alright. where is it?” she asked. No one knew where the staff was kept except for Nico. Who is it’s protector. Nico smiled.
“That you can’t know. I’ll just quickly go get it and we can tell Toby the news and start the healing process in the morning.”
“You do know we’ll have to find a way to restrain Martyn.” Cece reminded him. He smiled again.
“That will be up to you.” He said. And then left. Cece sat at the table and waited. She tried to stay awake but despite her efforts she still dozed off into sleep.

(Martyn)
Martyn paced The room quietly, waiting for the talking to stop. He had to find a way to get to Toby and get him out of here without the others knowing. He paced some more. His king does not want to be kept waiting. Martyn had to kill Toby as soon as possible. There were those words again, kill Toby. Every time he said them in his head a feeling of sadness washed over him. Why should he feel sad? He was given a command by his king and he had to follow it. Martyn listened again this time there was no talking. He quietly went out of his room and looked in the living room. Nico was gone. and it looked like Cece was asleep. ‘Good’ he thought. He went across the hall to the room Toby was in, and slipped inside. The boy was asleep. It would have been so easy just to kill him right there. But someone would probably hear. so instead he woke him up.
“Toby...” Martyn whispered.

(Toby)
“Toby...” Toby heard someone whisper. He opened his eyes to see Martyn standing over him.
“Martyn? What is it?” The boy asked. He was confused as to why Martyn was waking him up in the middle of the night.
“I need to tell you something.”
“couldn’t you have done that before we went to bed?”
“No i need to talk to you in private.”
“Ok then what did you need to tell me?”
“Not here. we need to go somewhere where no one can hear us.” Toby sighed. and got up.
“Alright. where do we need to go?”
“Follow me.” Martyn gestured to the door. He put his finger to his lips to tell Toby to be quiet. Together the two quietly snuck out the door. Once outside they looked around to be sure there was no one around. Toby thought he saw a shadow with a long stick but he just ignored it. After being sure no one would follow them they ran to somewhere private. They were out in one of the fields nearby an abandoned building. The sky was starting to lighten with dawn.
“So what did you need to tell me?” Toby asked again. Martyn smiled. It didn’t feel like a good smile either. It made Toby shiver.
“Uh, Martyn?” Martyn Unsheathed his sword. “Martyn? W-what are you doing?” He took a step toward him. “M-Martyn what’s going on?” Toby took a step back. Martyn swung his sword and Toby barely dodged it.
“Martyn! stop! What are you doing?!?!” He swung again. This time Toby wasn’t so lucky. the sword hit his side, and cut deep. Toby could feel the blood well up. He tried to back up more but ended up hitting the abandoned building.
“M-Martyn? What are you doing? It’s me Toby!” Martyn rose up his sword for the finale blow. Toby closed his eyes. Tears streaming down his face. He tried one last time to reason with Martyn.
“Martyn, Stop! please! Why are you doing this! were friends remember!” He waited for the finale blow but i didn’t come. He opened his eyes to see Martyn standing there with a confused look on his face. His eyes were both blue again.
“T-Toby? What happened? I-” he suddenly fell down to his knees.
“Martyn!” Toby ran over to him. He was holding his head.
“T-Toby! Run! I-I can’t control myself!” Martyn looked up at him. his eyes now two different colors. One blue and the other a sickly dark green. And all Toby could see in Martyn face was pain. But it all quickly changed. In the blink of an eye, Martyns eyes were both the sickly green color, there was also a strong black vine like thing on his face, and the only expression on his face was anger. He stood up.
“No more playing games.” Martyn said. he rose his sword again. Toby had no time to run. he closed his eyes. But the next thing he knew there was a loud THUNK! Toby opened his eyes to see Martyn lying on the ground unconscious and Nico standing over him with a strange staff, that was made of wood and had an Eye of Ender on top.
“Not exactly what i was planing on using this for but it will do.” Nico said. Toby was so relieved to see Nico he ran up and hugged the boy.
“Oh thank God you should up i thought i was done for.” He said.
“Toby. You’re bleeding!” Nico said. Toby looked down at the cut in his side. All the pain came rushing in. Toby nearly fell but Nico caught him.
Then everything went black.
